In the fall of 2019 a girlfriend that had a sit aboard kayak took me to Dunedin Causeway in Tampa Florida and invited me to have a paddle. Pretty cool, I thought; it was a lot easier to do than anticipated….somehow I expected to need more upper body strength – and I really (really) liked being that close to the water.
It was a good thing that I did enjoy it – I had booked a trip to Antarctica for that coming December and on a whim I paid additional and booked the kayak program – and I discovered a serious love for Kayaking!
My first kayak, Alice, was an INTEX inflatable K1 and oh, the places we did go….especially during the pandemic. Believe I logged somewhere north of 60 paddles in Alice until a leak convinced me I needed to upgrade. I had more experience now; I wanted to paddle more mangroves; to get out and not have to worry about scraping bottom or high tide. Yup, I needed something I could handle ALONE and would fit in my car
PakAYak was the solution for me. Why you might ask?
1. Fits in my car (I put in back seat) and safer than inflatable
2. At 49 lbs I can handle
3. This is a fast, reliable and sturdy ride – a WHOLE new world opened up!!!

Living in Tampa, Florida there are a ton of different paddling experiences within a few short hours. Locally there is Weedon Island, Honeymoon Island Causeway and Caladesi Island; I have always enjoyed Upper Tampa Park which is just down the road. Point is there is a TON of paddling within a very short drive time….however I admit I am very fond of Mangroves & Spring Runs; of which we’ve quite a good number in this area
The Springs in FL area amazing. There are xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
